Mr Mansoor Ajraan Al Bouainin warmly welcomed international visitors to Al Wakra and said how proud he was that Al Wakra had become the first city in Doha to be accepted as a member of the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities (GNLC).
Engineer Meshal Al Shamari, Director of Qatar Green Building Council spoke about the partnership with Al Wakra Municipality in building Sustainability Week activities. Now in its third year, the interest, the partners and activities have grown significantly. Projects involve school children, the community, Embassies, businesses, CNA-Q and others. Projects such as student environmental projects, beach clean-ups and the rehabilitation of native plants teach the community about healthy living.
A speaker from SAK Holding Group spoke about how his company worked to implement a student’s winning design in green house development. A prototype of the greenhouse is on display at Al Wakra Park. This project aims to create an adaptive agricultural environment that is used in training and educating students in agriculture.
