CNA-Q recognizes 155 Qatari Students for completion technician training

March 1, 2017 – College of the North Atlantic - Qatar (CNA-Q) recognized 155 Qatari students in its Technician Preparatory Program (TPP), who have completed Certificate credentials and are now qualified to work as technicians in Qatar’s Energy and Industry sector.

The students, who are all Qatari nationals and sponsored by local industry companies, received their designation at the Diplomatic Club during a ceremony on Monday. The Technician Preparatory Program was started in 2005, when CNA-Q assumed the technical training program for Qatar Petroleum (QP). In the past decade, the program has grown to graduate over 1,650 technicians who now work with over 20 industry partners in four disciplines: mechanical, instrumentation, electrical and process operation. In his address, guest speaker Mr. Abdulaziz Mohammed Al Mannai, Executive Vice President, Human Capital at Qatar Petroleum congratulated graduates on this milestone. “For the past decades, QP and the E&I sector have prioritized building the capacity of Qatari youth among the highest regarded strategic priorities. Massive efforts have joined to ensure the successful implementation of the integrated plans designed to develop a capable Qatari workforce, nurture them to internationally recognized standards,” said Al Mannai. “Our ultimate objective is to integrate Qatari youth into all levels in the E&I sector companies, and provide them with progressive career opportunities, through which they can contribute to achieving the sustainable development process in the State of Qatar.”

“I am confident that these young people who had the honor to graduate from this College are qualified are armed with everything they need to continue giving to their society,” said student Fahad Al Malki. “Actually that confidence derives from my own experience at CNA-Q, where I found what could help me to develop my skills and abilities.” “We are very proud of the personal and educational development of each of these students, who will now take their place in the workforce to contribute towards Qatar’s National Vision 2030,” said CNA-Q President, Dr. Ken MacLeod. “This technician program is a hallmark of our College, and a testament to the responsiveness of our programming to prepare students with the technical skills to support and advance the State’s energy and industry sector.” Since opening in 2002, CNA-Q has grown to offer over 30 diploma and certificate programs, graduating over 4,500 proud alumni from its technician program, as well as from its Schools of Engineering Technology, Health Sciences, Information Technology and Business Studies. This year marks the 15 academic year that CNA-Q has been providing technical education in Qatar to support the State’s strategic vision to educate, develop and retain young Qataris.
