A Work Term/internship is a career-related work experience of limited duration that provides students with an opportunity to gain experience before they graduate.

Completion of a Work Term is required for all Business Studies and Information Technology programs.

Work Term Eligibility Requirements

  • Students must successfully complete all academic courses.
  • Students must have at least a 2.0 GPA.
  • Student must apply for graduation.
  • Students must register for their work term course.

Work Term Solution (WTS)

Work Term Solution (WTS) is an application that manages work term course at CNA-Q. It is a platform of interaction between the students and their instructors. Work Term students will access WTS to upload their CV, provide information about their supervisor and upload their weekly reports. 

The Work Term Instructor and Coordinator will use WTS to plan the Work Term course for any given term, monitor the activities of the Work Term students and assess their progress. As soon as you register for your Work Term course, you should sign up on WTS and upload your updated CV.

Supervisor Guidelines

Work Term is an important academic course that aims to integrate student’s academic study with work experience. Therefore, the Work Term Supervisor is expected to provide the student with a meaningful work experience that puts theory into practice, by meeting the following requirements and responsibilities:

The student must have a Direct Supervisor to report to.

​The student must have a workstation (computer, desk).

​The Supervisor must meet regularly with the student to provide clear direction and support for assigned duties.

​The Supervisor must review and sign each weekly report.

​The Supervisor must meet with a CNA-Q instructor who will visit the company during the Wort Term course. 

​The Supervisor must evaluate the student at the end of the Work Term by completing a final evaluation.

Student guidelines

  • Register for the Work Term course.
  • Register on Work Term Solution (WTS).
  • Upload CV to WTS.
  • Update supervisor in WTS
  • Keep a summary of your daily activities and upload the report at the end of the week.

Some job search strategies that might help:

  • Attend a career fair
  • Search online
  • Ask people you know
  • Ask the Work Term Coordinator
  • Students will maintain a daily record of all work activities during work term.
  • This report will include a list of tasks performed, equipment used and any activities the student participates in.
  • Student must use the report template available on WTS.
  • The Direct Supervisor must sign each weekly report.
  • Students must upload the report at the end of the week.

Students will observe the regulations, operating procedures, working hours, and other such policies that apply at the workplace.

Students are expected to follow the work hours of the business where they are assigned (minimum 35 hours per week and not exceeding 40 hours per week). They are expected to arrive at least 15 minutes before the start of business and should not leave before the scheduled end of the business day.

Students are expected to maintain 100 percent attendance. Absence from the workplace will only be excused for special, approved reasons. If a student is absent or sick, they must notify their Workplace Direct Supervisor and the Work Term instructor immediately.

Students are expected to dress appropriately at all times and to conduct themselves in a professional manner.

The student is covered by College of the North Atlantic – Qatar’s insurance arrangements for the duration of the Work Term course.

An email will be sent to Sponsors with a list of students eligible for work term in order to give the company time to plan the student training programs.

The following reports are required to pass the Work Term course:

  1. Student Weekly Activity Report must be typed by the student and signed by the Direct Supervisor, and uploaded to WTS at the end of the week.
  2. Instructor site visit
  3. Supervisor final evaluation

If the student does not pass the Work Term Course, an extension may be granted or the student may have to repeat the course.

Work term duration and fees

If all college fees are paid for both the fall and winter semesters in an academic year, no further fees will be required for intersession or summer semesters immediately following.
