Mike joined the CNA Qatar team in 2006, arriving after an eight-year sojourn in the UAE. Previous employers include the Higher Colleges of Technology in the UAE, the Nova Scotia Community College, Nova Scotia Power, the DND Ship Repair Unit in Halifax, Irving Pulp and Paper and the Canadian Armed Forces Reserve. Mike has worked as a mill shift worker, apprentice journeyman, college instructor, military technician and as a leader/manager in both the college and military sectors. Mike is a Professional Engineer, a retired Lieutenant Colonel from the Canadian Army Reserve, and a Journeyman Marine Electrician.
Academically, Mike holds a Masters Degree in Educational Management from the University of Southern Queensland (Australia), a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems) from the Technical University of Nova Scotia, a Bachelors of Education (Vocational) from Saint Mary’s University and trades programs certificates from both the New Brunswick and Nova Scotia Community Colleges.
Mike and his wife Colleen grew up in the Miramichi region of New Brunswick, lived in Halifax for many years, and made the move to the Middle East in 1998. Mike is proud to be associated with CNA Q, which he firmly believes is the premiere technical college in the region. While not found immersed in college activities, Mike can usually be found close to his library, playing ice hockey or trying to improve a ghastly golf game.
