Advanced Writing Centre (AWC)

Rules & Regulations

  • Honour your appointment. Appointments begin on time. If you are more than five minutes late, your appointment will be cancelled and any other student seeking help will be admitted.
  • Maximum of two visits per week per student. When the AWC is busy, we have to limit the number of visits from individual students to two per week. We don’t like to do this, but we must to give assistance to as many students as possible.
  • Only book an appointment when you are free. Students are not permitted to visit the AWC when they have scheduled classes. The AWC is a help centre for students and does not substitute for classroom attendance. When you book an appointment, please make sure you do so when you have free time on your schedule.
  • Students are not permitted to book an appointment for assistance with any assignment, project or work that is due on the same day. The AWC believes that writing is not a last-minute activity, but is a measured and thought-out process conducted over time.
  • The AWC is not a proofreading centre. We do not fix your mistakes for you at the AWC. If we did that, you would not learn anything. Our job is to give you the skills to become better and more independent writers.
  • The AWC does not grade your writing. Often students ask us what we think they will get on an assignment. We do not comment on grades. We assist you by working on making your writing clear, accurate and effective. Only your instructors can give you a grade.
  • Your instructor will receive a short report about the work done during your appointment.
  • Students are not permitted to book double sessions.
