The work term phase is an important experiential academic course that aims to integrate the student's academic study with work experience. Therefore, the work term employer is expected to provide the student with a meaningful work experience that puts theory into practice, thereby providing a most valuable time for both the student and the employer's organization.
To maximize the benefit to the student and the employer, while minimizing any unnecessary distractions, the student will be expected to observe the organization's regulations, operating procedures, working hours and other such policies that may normally apply at the work term. The student will be expected to work the same hours as a regular employee, but is not to exceed 40 hours per week.
It is understood that the student is covered by CNA-Q's insurance arrangements for the duration of the work term.
Site Visits - Instructor Evaluation (see Forms section in Workterm Manual)
The site visit will be conducted after the midpoint of the work term to see how the work term is going. The visit will be scheduled through the Schools with the Direct Supervisor and the student. Instructors will use a standardized evaluation form for the site visit. The completed form will be given to the Work Term Coordinator after completion of the site visit.
Evaluation
The Work Term Supervisor will be asked to evaluate the student’s performance during the Work Term. The student will give the Evaluation Form to the Work Term Supervisor at the end of the Work Term. The Work Term Supervisor has to FAX a copy of the completed evaluation form to the Work Term Coordinator within one week of completion; fax number 4952914 and give a copy of the evaluation form to the student.
Daily Activities Log
Students will maintain a daily record of their activities while in the place of business. The Work Term Supervisor should sign off each week before it is submitted to the Work Term Coordinator at CNA-Q.
Sponsors
An email will be sent at an early stage to the sponsor’s training coordinator; with the list of candidate students due for Work Term, to give ample time to plan the training program with the different departments. Training Coordinators shall have to forward the Work Term package to the student’s direct supervisor; so that he/she becomes well informed about the Work Term program and of the CNAQatar requirements. Training Coordinators are responsible for advising the direct supervisor to alert the College of any problem or noticeable poor performance from the student.
