Pre-Nursing

Program

Nursing is an exciting career with numerous options. Nurses work with people of all ages to promote their health and provide specialized care to those who have health problems. Although most nurses work in clinical practice there are other career choices such as education, administration, research and advanced specialized practice.

Objectives

The students will gain the following skills from the program:

1. To obtain prerequisite knowledge and skills required for successful completion of a nursing program.

2. To participate in an introduction into the theoretical knowledge of nursing.

3. To develop effective communication skills.

4. To develop basic computer skills required for educational pursuits.

5. To develop skills that serve as fondation for future nursing courses such as inquiry-based learning, critical thinking and decision-making.

Career options

Program graduates will be eligible to apply to a university nursing program among other programs. Those who go on to a nursing program may obtain employment in a variety of areas such as:

  • Hospitals
  • Schools
  • Health clinics
  • Occupational health (offices and work areas)

Curriculum

Students will participate in course areas including Science, Math, Computer Studies, Communications and an Introduction to Nursing. The curriculum offers a student-centered learning environment with small group learning sessions, low student-teacher ratios and hands-on laboratory sessions. Upon completion of Pre-Nursing studies, students will be eligible to apply to a university nursing program.

Any costs associated with completing the medical assessment will be the student's responsibility. Students sponsored by Hamad Medical Corporation will have the medical completed as part of their contract obligations with HMC. The College will assist other students to complete the process during the first semester.
