Security

Overview

The security training programs at the College provide students with opportunities for employment in a wide range of business, organizations and government departments. All security specialization fields are addressed in the available training programs. All training programs emphasize the application of English language skills, computer literacy and first aid proficiency with the aim to improve service levels.

The aim of the Security Program is to provide career pathway opportunities for students wishing to pursue careers as security professionals and practitioners in the security industry. The program is supported by modern facilities for instruction, highly qualified instructors and leading edge technology.

Objectives

1. To provide students with specific knowledge and skills at the different required performance levels ensuring professional execution in the security industry.

2. To assist the student in development of personal skills, which are in demand by employers, including the ability to manage information, solve problems, be professional workers, work well in teams and produce quality work.

3. To assist the student in developing the personal leadership and management skills to be highly successful in security management.

4. To provide an internationally recognized security qualification by following an endorsed training program.

5. To provide students with the opportunity to follow a career path in security.

6. To demonstrate the team skills necessary for being part of a security contingent.

7. To provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary for further continuation in post secondary studies.

Equipment for training

Candidates must wear the appropriate attire required for the workplace. Students from a petrochemical and industrial work environment must wear clothing as prescribed by OH&S policies and uniform standards (safety boots, etc.) and be qualified in the necessary safety certificates (H2S).

Career opportunities

The security studies programs prepare candidates from entry level up to being able to enter into diploma and degree levels. All career possibilities are catered to. Courses are generic but application and instructional activities can be made applicable to the roles and responsibilities of the client's scope of security activities.

Program transferability

The Security Academy has established several partnerships with international organizations which allow credits to be transferred to future studies.

Students that follow the vocational asset protection career pathway will be eligible to enter into diploma and degree programs in Security and Risk Management.

The ASIS asset protection courses prepare the candidate to take up the board certified programs in security management, physical security or investigations.

Students wishing to follow careers in emergency and civil protection can transfer credits enabling them to follow licentiate programs at City and Guilds and Leeds University thru a partnership with the Emergency Planning College of the UK.
