Engineering Technology

Overview

College of the North Atlantic-Qatar programs are designed to develop a diverse technical background, good hands-on aptitude and team work. The development of practical skills and competencies are enhanced through partnerships with industry, cooperative work terms and world-class shops and labs equipped with the latest industrial equipment. In addition, technology training promotes independent thinking and problem solving, critical factors when preparing individuals for troubleshooting, design, supervision and management roles.

Programs offered at the College prepare individuals for maintenance and operator positions at the technician and technology level. The program structure allows students to progress from the technician diploma to the technologist designations. Maintenance disciplines include; Electrical, Telecommunications, Mechanical and Industrial Instrumentation. The requirement for Operations training will be addressed by the Chemical / Process Operations program and the Chemical Laboratory Technician program.

Accreditation

Engineering Technology programs will be reviewed for accreditation by the Canadian Technology Accreditation Board (CTAB). The qualifications of graduates from CTAB accredited technician and technology programs are recognized internationally through the Dublin Accord and Sydney Accord.

Bacculaureate degree options

For those wishing to pursue a baccalaureate degree, university transfer agreements are in place which make it possible for College graduates to attend Canadian universities. A variety of options are available. Typically one additional year of study is required to obtain a Bachelor of Technology degree (www.mi.mun.ca), two years for a Bachelor of Engineering degree (www.lakeheadu.ca) and three years are needed to complete a Bachelor of Engineering (Co-op) degree (www.mun.ca).
