The Diploma in Telecommunications Engineering Technology is designed to provide graduates with the skills and knowledge to work in modern telecommunication systems using digital and fiber-optics principles. Graduates will have hands-on experience in maintaining telecommunications systems as well as being able to assist in the design of systems using established methods. Graduates of this program receive the Diploma of Telecommunications Engineering Technology. This program is seeking accreditation by the Canadian Technology Accreditation Board under the mandate of the Canadian Council of Technicians and Technologists.
1. To provide a basic knowledge of the current systems, instrumentation and electronics associated with the general field of teleCommunications.
2. To develop a high level of skill and knowledge in the application of basic electronic principles in the operation, testing and maintenance of telecommunications systems.
3. To develop an awareness of, and concern for, good safety practices and procedures in the workplace.
According to the International Labour Organization report "Global Employment Trends", the labour force in the Middle East is expected to grow at 2.6 per cent a year from 2003-2015. Outside the Middle East the job prospects in the teleCommunications are also robust. Job prospects for the telecommunications field are expected to be strong in the foreseeable future. Q-Tel is Qatar's major employer of Telecommunications graduates but increasingly other industries, such as the gas and oil industries, require a practical level of expertise in managing and maintaining Telecommunications facilities.
General Education consisting of English (oral and written), Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Electrotechnology, Engineering Graphics and Technology Awareness.
Extensive training in the theory and principles of electronics.
Specialized training in the field of software engineering. Laboratory and field experience in the application of all facets of electronics.
